About My Mentoring
My coaching and mentoring services are born out of having been a registered nurse and midwife for 38 years, and a midwife for 21 years. During my career I was often faced with challenges which I managed to navigate with the help of friends and family.
When I became an independent midwife in 2oo5 it was a very steep learning curve. Families often asked me to support them give birth outside guidelines, which challenged me to research, and grow confident in providing professional care.
So now I can use all the hard lessons I've learned to help you be the best you can be!
Soon into my Independent midwifery career I was asked to help other birthworkers by providing mentoring support for their practice.
I gained a diploma in education and a couple of counselling certificates, but what makes me a great mentor is that I've been there! So I truly understand.
I've worked in hospital, co-located, and free standing birth centres, and at home births. I've been a student, an NHS and an Independent midwife and now an unregistered birthkeeper. I've undergone several supervisory investigations after bad outcomes. including a child death review panel, and have been referred to the NMC.
I know how difficult, as well as how rewarding. this work can be. So let me be your guide, your tutor, your supervisor or your mentor. I'm here for you.
I have learnt from some of the best in the Birth World
I've been lucky to have learnt from so many great teachers. Mary Cronk was my mentor and colleague for the first 5 years as an independent midwife. I cannot express my gratitude for the great wisdom she shared with me. She taught me so much about breech birth, assertiveness, compassion and the tenacity to not give up when things get tough.
We taught "once more unto the breech" workshops together, supported each other through bereavements, and became life-long friends.
